Half of Hanjin Containers Denied Port Access Following Receivership Filing

This week, the news has been filled with stories about the Korean shipping company, Hanjin, filing for receivership after losing funding from banks. Hanjin is the seventh-largest container shipper in the world, and this action has led to many questions over the fate of the cargo on board Hanjin vessels.

Reports have stated that access to ports has been denied for 44 of the 98 container ships. The ports involved with the denials have been Shanghai, Sydney, Hamburg and Long Beach, California.

Please contact Buckland’s Freight Forwarding & Logistics team today if you have questions about your shipments and the impact of this news on your business. At this point, we are not aware of any of our Buckland customers’ shipments that were on any of the impacted ships. However, if you have any moves that were scheduled with Hanjin, please reach out to us immediately.

Please see this article from the Globe and Mail for more information on this developing story.
