Rail service in and out of the Port of Vancouver has stopped as a result of the approximately 200 active wildfires across British Columbia. The Port of Vancouver has communicated to stakeholders that there is a large volume of trains waiting to arrive at the port currently. This will continue to have a significant impact on terminal operations at this Port.
This interruption of rail service follows several major road closures across the province, also resulting from the fires, two-thirds of which have been classified as out of control.
The impacted rail tracks are operated by CN Rail and CP Rail who are both “working closely with Transport Canada and onsite inspectors to determine the necessary steps to resume safe rail operations,” according to a notice. They have advised customers to anticipate delays as this situation persists.
