Ongoing Rail Strike Risk

August 23, 2024. We are writing to provide an important update regarding the ongoing situation with CN Rail and CPKC. While recent government intervention on August 22, 2024, led to a temporary halt in the work stoppage and the resumption of rail services, the threat of a strike remains.

Potential Resumption of Strike

The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) has challenged the government’s arbitration order. Union leaders have notified CN Rail that if a new contract is not reached by 10 a.m. ET on Monday, August 26, their 6,500 workers will resume the strike. This escalation could lead to another disruption in rail services across Canada, impacting the movement of goods.

Current Status and Preparations

As of now, CN and CPKC continue their recovery plans to restore full operations. However, the risk of another work stoppage means that the situation remains fluid. We strongly advise our customers to remain vigilant and prepare for potential delays.

At Buckland, we are closely monitoring the situation and remain committed to minimizing any impact on your supply chain. Our teams are ready to implement contingency plans if necessary, and we will keep you informed of any developments.
