We continue to provide updates and work with Mexican & US customs for a contingency plan with closure of the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, TX.
- Colombia bridge is currently being used to cross freight – without having to register additional Mexican broker licenses (Patente’s)
- Mexican and US Customs both advised May 22, 2017 that the Columbia Bridge would remain open, as long as there were trucks in line – this appeared not to be the case. The early morning of May 23, 2017 US and MX Customs Operations was closed at 2:30 am central, leaving a line of approx. 5 km long on both sides of the border. Many drivers spent the night in their truck and were able to cross after 9 AM this morning.
- As a result of the backlog, the lines at the Colombia Bridge are exceeding up to 20 km on both the US and MX side of the border – causing delays
- US & MX Customs does not guarantee and have not communicated, how long they plan to keep the Columbian Bridge port open today or tomorrow
- There is a new meeting schedule for Tuesday May 23, 2017 at 6:30 pm central with US and MX customs – Buckland will provide an update as a result of this meeting
- MX Customs have announce that they are working to enable setup 3 additional ports (listed below) to electronically receive Laredo Entries (port 240)
- Eagle Pass/Piedras Negras
- Mcallen/Reynosa
- Brownsville/Matamoros
- Once the MX system changes have taken place – Buckland will be able to clear loads with the same Mexican License (Patente – for which your company is registered at the port of Laredo)
- This change will ensure that your company does not need to register with additional brokers or change the port of entry
- Buckland is requesting 24 hours advance notice – during business hours (9 am to 6 pm Central) should you make the decision to re-route your freight. This will allow us the necessary time to ensure smooth crossing at the new port.
