October 3, 2024. We would like to inform you about an important update from Global Affairs Canada (GAC) regarding the Steel Import Monitoring Program and the upcoming requirement to provide the Country of Melt and Pour information as part of the Single Window (SW) Integrated Import Declaration (IID) process.
Customs Self-Assessment (CSA) participants will continue to be exempt from the reporting requirements for General Import Permits (GIP) related to aluminum and steel, including the need to provide the country of melt and pour (COM) data element, as outlined in Memorandum D19-10-2.
Currently, providing the country of melt and pour information is optional for steel imports under GIP 80 and 81. However, this requirement will become conditional following regulatory changes that are expected to take effect on November 5, 2024. We will send further updates before the conditional rule becomes mandatory.
