May 5, 2023 – Delays are presently being experienced at the World Trade Bridge border crossing into Mexico from Laredo, Texas. These delays come as a result of closures that began on May 1, 2023, and are expected to last for 2 weeks.
The details regarding the closures from the Laredo Police Department are as follows:
- The I-69W (State Loop 20) westbound frontage road access ramp to the I-69W (SL 20) westbound main lanes and the World Trade Bridge will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, May 1, 2023, at 7:00 a.m. This entrance ramp is located west of the I-69W (SL 20)/Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 1472 (Mines Road) intersection.
- The initiative to close the westbound I-69W frontage road entrance ramp came at the request of the Mines Road (FM 1472) Mobility Coalition as a pilot project to help alleviate long traffic queues on southbound Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 1472 (Mines Road) approaching the I-69W (SL 20)/Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 1472 (Mines Road) intersection using the access ramp to World Trade Bridge into Mexico.
- The coalition also wants FM 1472 traffic to have safer and less disrupted access to intersections, businesses, and neighborhoods east and west of FM 1472.
The Laredo Police Department has recommended that drivers seek alternate routes and longer delays are anticipated on Mondays and Fridays. This closure will help determine whether the temporary, two-week closure will lead to a more permanent solution.
We encourage those with shipments crossing at the World Trade Bridge to take preventive actions and forward urgent shipments to your Buckland Customer Service Representative in order to prioritize your shipments.
