The CBSA just announced that, due to ongoing strike vote activity by the Public Service Alliance of Canada, the CARM launch for trade chain partners will be postponed to October 2024 to ensure seamless implementation while CARM will launch internally at the CBSA on May 13, 2024, as planned.
The internal launch will facilitate the Agency’s progress towards achieving improved compliance. Utilizing CARM, the CBSA will pinpoint errors and inconsistencies in duty and tax declarations, initiating collaboration with industry stakeholders to address these issues. These initiatives respond to findings by the Auditor General of Canada, estimating that up to 20% of imported goods into Canada were misclassified, leading to reduced duty payments.
As of this moment, Buckland does not have additional information and is not yet fully aware of the impact of this delay. We will provide further updates as information becomes available.
