Potential Work Stoppage at the Port of Montreal

September 27, 2024. We wish to inform you of a potential work stoppage at the Port of Montreal, which may affect operations next week. The union representing longshore workers has issued a 72-hour strike notice, which could result in a work stoppage at two terminals owned by Termont Montreal. The strike is set to begin at 7 a.m. on Monday and may last until Thursday.

Negotiations between the Maritime Employers Association and the union, which represents 1,150 longshore workers, are ongoing as they seek to renew the collective agreement that expired on December 31, 2023. Earlier this week, the longshore workers overwhelmingly rejected the latest offer from the Maritime Employers Association, with a 99.63 percent vote against it. The union has also given itself a strike mandate.

Please note that while only two terminals will be affected by the strike, it could still cause significant delays and disruptions to port operations. We encourage you to stay informed about the situation as it develops.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates on any impact to your shipments. Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at clientsupportca@buckland.com.
