There is potential for a labour strike this week, which would impact movement of goods by rail in Canada.
Approximately 3,000 members of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) including engineers, conductors and yard workers have been in a legal strike position since March 13, 2022. The TCRC and the Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. (CP) continue to negotiate with the assistance of federal mediators on key issues of wages, benefits and pensions.
The TCRC has not yet issued the required 72-hour strike notice, meaning no legal work stoppage could begin until Friday at the earliest. CP has stated that it is considering a lock-out of employees in order to address this situation until the negotiations are complete between the two parties.
We will continue to monitor this situation and provide any relevant updates.
