June 5, 2024. The union representing thousands of Canadian border workers, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), has announced a potential job action set to begin Friday afternoon if no deal is reached by then. This announcement follows over two years of stalled contract negotiations for more than 9,000 union members who work for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
PSAC has set a firm deadline of Friday at 4 p.m. eastern time for reaching an agreement. Despite ongoing mediation efforts that began on Monday, the union remains poised to initiate strike action if necessary. PSAC emphasizes that while it still hopes to avoid a strike and subsequent border disruptions, the union is prepared to act to secure better terms for its members.
