If your company operates in Mexico and imports or exports shipments, please be aware of the new LIGIE (Ley de los Impuestos Generales de Importación y de Exportación) regulations that will go into effect on January 1, 2021. This change will result in required updates for part number databases for all Mexican importers and exporters of record by adding ‘Identification numbers’ on HTS level name NICO (Número de Identificación Comercial) and adjusting from 8 to 10 digits as shown in the structure below:
The purpose of this change is to more accurately identify goods and improve the statistical gathering for Mexico Foreign Trade. A benefit of this change is that it will be more aligned with the modern Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) structure similar to the US, Canada and China, and will allow for matching of HTS without modifying tariffs.
It is very important that Mexican importers and exporters adhere to regulations with the Mexican Servicio de Administración Tributaria (SAT) authorities.
